A new arts festival is set to turn Wimbledon Village’s Grade II* listed Cannizaro Park into a must-visit arts destination. Taking place on Sunday 19th September, Art in the Park combines masterclasses for adults of all artistic abilities, family friendly workshops and an art fair showcasing local talent.
The one-day event is supported by Viking, the award-winning cruise and riverboat company, and has been created by a dedicated volunteer team of local artists from The Friends of Cannizaro Park. Continuing a rich history of art displays in the park’s beautiful landscape, this event is held in partnership with The Merton Arts Festival, the park’s ACAVA artists’ studios and Wimbledon Bookfest’s Sunset Festival, which is taking place on the same weekend.
Aimed at art lovers, amateur enthusiasts, budding artists and families alike, Art in the Park promises a full day of creativity for the whole community to enjoy. You’ll find booking links here later in August.
Visitors to Cannizaro’s Art in the Park can try their hand at a variety of artistic techniques in the Hartley Fowler Adult Masterclasses tent, including botanical painting, print and bind your own Artist’s book, Japanese woodblock printmaking, plein-air painting and tree drawing.
Younger visitors will enjoy discovering the world of art and design in the dedicated EQ Investors’ Children’s Workshop Tent. Classes include animation techniques, storytelling and craft with award-winning illustrators Jane Porter and Kim Hillyard, as well as printing designs inspired by celebrated local designer William Morris. Sally Booth, one of our acclaimed Pottery Sheds artists, will be leading a drawing workshop helping participants create their own unique vision of the park. Cygnets Art School will also be running two parent and child workshops out in the park.
Throughout the day, visitors are invited to contribute to the Viking Community Sculpture, designed by renowned local sculptor Tim Norris. Tim will lead a workshop, helping visitors to create elements of the sculpture and build it into a large-scale work that will remain on display in the park.
An Art Fair, held in Cannizaro Park’s picturesque Italian Gardens, will showcase a range of local talent in painting, printmaking, ceramics and jewellery-making.
Merton Arts Festival will be reviving the rich history of sculpture in Cannizaro Park with a sculpture trail through the woods.
Art in the Park is supported by headline sponsor Viking, the award-winning cruise and riverboat company, with sponsorship from EQ Investors wealth management (Children’s Workshop Tent) and Hartley Fowler chartered accountants (Masterclasses Tent). Further activity sponsorship is provided by King’s College School, Artfully Sorted, Cygnets Art School and Holden Harper Architects
