Chairmans's January 2012 Report

Welcome to 2012 which we hope will be a significant year as we are planning on investing substantial funds to further improve and enhance our wonderful landscape.

As mentioned in our November newsletter we will be installing 3 large information boards to advise our visitors about the key areas of the Park, with details of particular interest. We are also providing new toilet signs and warnings about tree climbing. In co-operation with the Hotel we have jointly funded substantial bedding planting in the Sunken Garden. The bulb display here will be spectacular – please come and visit in the spring.

Our main campaign this year will be our long term wish to redesign the Italian Garden and therefore we have invited Anthony Gardiner (who provided the excellent planting scheme for the Herb garden) to assist us again. We will be discussing this proposal at committee very shortly.

The Aviary is being sponsored by our good Friend and founder member Robert Holmes. He has already financed the very necessary work to repair the building and has kindly offered to pay for the general upkeep of the birds. We are also very grateful to Alison Young a new recruit to the Committee, for looking after the birds on a regular basis and hopefully she will be caring for even more of them in the spring.

It is essential that not only the Committee but all our members keep the Park in mind when in conversation with anyone who can be of help. We are particularly interested in ensuring that the 3 ward Councillors and our local MP are aware of your concerns and the necessity for them to support all initiatives that enhance the Park and respect the needs of our visitors.

Have a really good year and if you wish to get in touch please use our website contact page.

P.S. On 6th December we held a very successful Christmas soiree at the Royal Wimbledon Golf Club. This was our fourth annual visit to the Club where our guests enjoyed canapés, mulled wine and very hearty carol singing. We hope to entertain more of you at a similar event next winter.
